Curriculum
A strong emphasis is placed on Literacy and Numeracy at Mooroopna Park Primary School. Our school day consists of two hours for Literacy learning, one hour for Mathematics and two hours for other domains which include Cultural Studies, Interpersonal Studies, Physical Education and the Arts.
We are guided by the Victorial Essential Learning Standards and our teachers have developed units of work in the general studies area covering subjects such as Science, Geography and History. The units of work are taught on a two year rotation, regularly reviewed, moderated and updated. Teachers at Mooroopna Park Primary School are skilled in Information and Computer Technology and our modern computer lab and interactive whiteboards allow for each student to access technology to further enhance their learning. The senior students havwhitee the opportunity to learn about podcasting and use Ipods to develop their literacy skills.
As well as regular classes, our students have the opportunity to participate in and learn about Art, Music and Physical Education. We have a well equiped Art room which all students visit each week .They have the opportunity to develop their creative skills in such mediums as paint and clay. Students can join our school choir and gain the chance to sing and perform at speical events. Students can recieve individual tuition in an instrument on a weekly basis.
Mooroopna Park Primary places a lot of importance on the health and wellbeing of its students. We have a strong physical education program where children learn many skills. Our school Netball Team competes in the local competitions. Children are taught how to swim and can develop their skills in our swimming program. We access Aquamoves and the local pool. We have a well equiped multi-purpose room that doubles as a gym with lots of space for students to play games and exercise.We run a PMP (perceptual motor program) for our junior students to assist them in developing strong coordination skills and balance. Our school House system is fantastic, with House Captains being responsible for running daily games and sport for children to participate in during their lunchtime play. We have a great camping program which is structured so that students begin with small overnight camps at school in the junior grades and leads to longer camps at such destinations as the beach, Melbourne and Canberra.
Primary Welfare
We have a wonderful Primary Welfare officer who helps students with any issues they may have around the are of health and wellbeing. Students can access our school breaky program and gain support developing friendships and play. At Mooroopna Park Primary, we promote healthy eating. We have a 'Fresh Fruit Program' and children are given fruit to eat.
