Foundation Literacy
At Mooroopna Park Primary School, we give every Foundation student the strongest possible start to reading and writing.
Our literacy program includes daily phonics lessons using the Little Learners Love Literacy program, helping children build strong sound and letter knowledge from the very beginning. Students start their reading journey with decodable readers that match their phonics learning and enjoy daily fluency practice to build accuracy and confidence.
Each day, students read and discuss engaging topics, presented with quality texts to strengthen comprehension and vocabulary. A Daily Review helps them remember what they’ve learned and make connections over time.
Writing is taught through the Talk For Writing approach, where students learn to plan, rehearse and write their own stories and information pieces. Alongside this, a dedicated handwriting program supports neat, legible writing and builds fine-motor control.
Together, these approaches ensure that every child develops strong reading, writing, and communication skills for future success.
